Lógos was contracted to provide professional Architect/Engineer services for the Construct Spinal Cord Injury Gym at Main Building project at the VA Caribbean Healthcare System (VACHS) in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) builds and updates specialized Spinal Cord Injury and Disorders (SCI/D) centers and rehabilitation gyms nationwide to provide dedicated care, physical therapy, and equipment access for veterans.
The design scope began with a site survey and review of available drawings, coordinated with construction-team field verification to confirm existing conditions and identify potential obstacles.
Architectural and structural design supported the gym renovation while maintaining ground-level pedestrian access and integrating exterior changes with surrounding buildings. Interior finishes and materials will be recommended by the architect and coordinated with VA interior design staff for final selection.
Building-system evaluations addressed plumbing, fire protection, HVAC, chilled water, hot water and steam, electrical capacity, security, communications, and life-safety systems. Proposed upgrades will be coordinated with applicable VA criteria, codes, and ongoing electrical projects, with panel-capacity metering performed by the construction team before connections. The scope also addresses investigation of potential asbestos and lead, with qualified industrial hygiene monitoring, inspection, testing, and regulatory compliance where hazardous materials are encountered.
